Seasonal variation of energy metabolism

Project description

The project investigates the seasonal adjustments of energy metabolism associated with hibernation in the teiú lizard, Salvator merianae. Structural and functional changes in different organs and tissues are analyzed, with emphasis on oxidative metabolism and the anti-oxidant protection system, aiming to understand the balance between supply and consumption of energy in view of the wide fluctuations in metabolism and body temperature of the tissues during the annual cycle.
