General rules for qualifying exams:
The Qualification Exam is required both in the Master course and in the PhD course, enrollment for it is of the student's responsibility.
A minimum number of credits is not required for the qualification examination.
The examination should be carried out no later than 60 days after registration.
The student who does not take the exam in the period foreseen for his course will be disconnected from the Program.
The examining committee must be composed of three members, with a minimum doctorate degree, excluding the counselor.
The student who fails the qualifying examination may register to repeat it only once. The new enrollment must be made within 90 days after the first exam. The second examination must be carried out within 60 days after enrollment. Continuing the disapproval, the student will be disconnected from the Program and will receive a certificate of the courses taken.
Specific rules of the Master's qualification examination:
Application period: Maximum period of 18 (eighteen) months after the first enrollment in the course.
Objective of the exam: To evaluate the student's investment in the various sectors of academic life and the progress achieved with respect to the overall training, in relation to the desired level.
Constitution of the exam: The exam will consist of a class on the topic of Physiology at the undergraduate level (45 to 60 minutes in duration). The subject of the lesson should be related to the Program of one of the core basic undergraduate subjects under the responsibility of the IB / USP Physiology Department. Next, there will be an argument from the candidate regarding the class and the documentation presented at the time of registration (30 minutes duration by the defendant).
Registration documents: They must be delivered to the Postgraduate Secretariat (GSP):
1) request for the constitution of an Examining Board, in its own form, indicating the title of the class (link);
2) 6-copies Curriculum Lattes (or Vitae) of the student;
3) 6 copies of the student's record in the Graduate course.
4) 6 copies of the most recent activity report presented to the Program or to the development agency, complemented or not, at the discretion of the student and supervisor.
Structure and accuracy of concepts in presentation.
Fluency and mastery in Physiology topics related to the content of the presentation.
Ability to synthesize and critically analyze the results already obtained in their research work, in front of the project objectives.
Student Performance in the Program.
Assessment procedures: At the end of the session each member of the Examining Board will complete a standardized report in which the candidate's performance will be assessed on the basis of the criteria set out above. The examiner may additionally express any other considerations that he considers relevant to his decision. The candidate who obtains the approval of the majority of the examiners shall be considered approved.
Specific rules of the qualification examination of the Doctorate and Direct Doctorate:
Deadline for enrollment: For PhD students, the maximum enrollment period is 28 months after the first enrollment in the course.
For Direct Doctoral students, the maximum enrollment period is 34 months after the first enrollment in the course.
Exam Objective: Evaluate the candidate's ability to (i) independently discuss and develop his thesis project within his / her research area, (ii) communicate the data obtained in his / her research in the form of scientific works and (iii) take advantage of various academic opportunities, including disciplines, scientific events and other possibilities, in their training as a researcher.
Examination: The exam will consist of an oral presentation in which the candidate will present the theoretical aspects that underlie and justify his research project, inserting his work in the current scientific context (45 to 60 minutes duration). The presentation of results obtained by the student is optional. Next, there will be an argument from the candidate regarding the oral presentation and the documentation presented at the time of registration (30 minutes duration by the defendant).
Registration documents: They must be delivered to the Postgraduate Secretariat (GSP):
1) request for the constitution of an Examining Committee, in its own form, indicating the title of the oral presentation (form link);
2) 6 copies of a text written by the student, in Portuguese or English, in the form of a complete scientific article or published scientific article, provided that the subject is related to the student's project and that the student is the first author;
3) 6 copies of the Curriculum Lattes (or Vitae) of the student;
4) 6 copies of the pupil's file / scholastic history of the Master and of the current course of Post-Graduation.
