Norms of the Graduate Comission (CPG- Comissão de Pós-Graduação) of IB

(Approved at the regular meeting of CPG 04/12/2008 and finalized at a special meeting on 25/06/2009).

Composition of the CPG
The CPG of IB is composed by the coordinators of the Graduate Program (Biology, Botany, Ecology, General Physiology and Zoology) and the student representative.

II . Fees
Registration fee, set by the CoPGR (Conselho de Pós-Graduação) will be charged in the selection process. Programs in Ecology , Biological Sciences ( Botany ) and Biological Sciences ( Zoology ) , will charge tuition set by the CoPGr for each discipline, for special student. In Ecology Program , this fee will be waived for teachers of public schools and students from other regular post- graduate programs. Programs in Biological Sciences ( Biology Genetics) and Science ( General Physiology ), will not charge tuition per discipline, for special student.

III . Maximum Number of Students per Advisor
The maximum number of students allowed for an advisor in the graduate program of the IB is 10. And a maximum of 3 co-advisings are allowed for an advisor.

IV. Thesis Defense
The opening of the Committee shall be made by the President of the Commission, in the presence of an employee of the Department of Graduate Studies , who will arrange for the minutes of the meeting .

Oral presentation :
Biology (Genetics ) : Maximum 50 minutes.
Botany: From 20 to 40 minutes.
Ecology: From 30 to 50 minutes.
General Physiology: Maximum 30 minutes.
Zoology: Maximum 30 minutes.

V. Criteria for Transferring Programs, Area of concentration and course There are no specific criteria in IB, besides those displayed in Articles 56 and 57 of the Regiment.

VI. Definition of cases that may allow dissertations or thesis written in English Dissertations and Thesis will be accepted in English in the following cases:
1) when the student is a foreigner and the official language of his country of origin is not the portuguese;
2) when the Brazilian student participated in the “sandwich program” or has opted for double degrees;
3) when the thesis results from an international cooperation program conducted in collaboration with foreigner researchers or teachers.
